The basic architecture of the location is a strip of ground covered in grass that is suspended in the void. The elements present in the location change between the two games. Stone blocks and worn columns litter the right side.
In Submachine 7, the full layout of the location can be seen. A stone wall splits the sanctuary into a left half and a right half. The right boundary is a sheer dropoff into nothingness.
The right half is filled with mechanical parts used to power forcefield emitters that control forcefields, as well as various building materials. Tables and chairs are also present with schematic drawings and a energy gem in a locked box. An edge portal is also present in the area.
Close to the wall, several columns can be seen. The center wall itself is partially destroyed, allowing access to the other side. The other side contains powerful guns set up aiming toward a portal door. Several flowerpots and gun ammo cases can be seen. A gong is situated to the left of the portal door. Two statues of Buddha with inscriptions can also be seen. The left border is another stone wall.
The left half's ground is covered in grass but it also contains a fair amount of fluorescent plants, including vines and tall grasses. They grow a bright blue and cover some of the objects in the area.
In the SubVerse, only the right half of the sanctuary is accessible.
The edge portal is replaced with a lab portal, and moss and other plants have started to grow on it.
The SubVerse location has undergone one important update which advanced the history of the room in relation to Submachine 7. For more information, see the "history" section.
Presumably, Elizabeth had visited this location many times, as it shares a direct connection to the Winter Palace. She left a note to anyone who managed to come across the sanctuary congratulating them on reaching this place. She advised the explorers who visited not to stay, as she knew the Murtaugh was planning an invasion.
A while later, the invasion reached the sanctuary and destroyed the center wall. They set up offensive mechanisms like automated guns, defensive mechanisms like forcefields controlled by forcefield emitters, and also tables and chairs to continue karma research.
Some time later after the invasion, the location was wiped clean of all signs of the invasion, except for the hole in the wall. The wall was "patched" by having a barrier made of karma installed on the left side.
