The study is a location in Submachine Universe.

Architecture

This is the only location in Submachine Universe where it is possible to access another layer of that location. By using a simple tabletop portal in the far right area of the Study, the player can transport to its alternate layer called Dharma alcove, which has the coordinates "gzb".

The Study consists of four room areas in a row. The design heavily reflects 1920's Art Deco style, with its tall, sleek electric floor lamps, and the distinct look of the table's legs, arc supports, and thick table tops. The walls are covered with light, vertical, white and gray stripes which continue across the floor. The two tall tables, the reading chair's end table and all three footstools found scattered throughout the Study share the same faded gray coloring, and all pieces are supported with distinctive claw feet. Were it not for the red wine and small orange/red portal, the Study could be a scene from a black and white movie, which further reinforces the 1920's Art Deco style.

In the drop zone, on the wall behind each side of the portal, there are two columns with a series of identical bold, dark glyphs going down the front of them. Very similar glyphs can also be seen in the Pit and in the Study's alternate layer, Dharma Alcove.

To the left, there is a table with two scientific or navigational pieces of equipment. Red versions of these devices can also be found on the Captain's desk in Liz's ship. There is a footstool, with four hemispheres of unknown meaning scattered randomly. There is a tall, unlit, decorative candlestick on each side of the table. Nailed to the wall are two framed pictures of Yin-Yang symbols. And framed between them is the "Dimensional Pathway Theory" by - ak -. A small plaque that reads THIS - 229 is mounted nearby.

In the far left area is a large armchair with footstool, atop which sits a coffee mug. Two more of the small, mysterious hemispheres are laying on the floor here. The chair's end table holds a bottle of red spirits with two drinking glasses. A valve can be found mounted in front of the Wheel of Dharma, as well. On the wall above the side table is an oval panel which clues to 378.

In the far right area of the room is the matching pair to the tall Art Deco floor lamps found at the opposite end of the Study. A third footstool, and three more hemispheres are also found here. In the center of the table is a red/orange-rusted, domed, cylindrical portal with only a single large red button on it. Large flakes of rust or dirt are mysteriously scattered on the floor in front of the table. Pressing the button on the small portal transports the player to the alternate layer, Dharma alcove.
